Flying to Australia
Hoping to take my mum to Australia for christmas to see some relatives. Has anyone flown there from London recently. I'm looking at premium economy for her and obviously the price around the time I'm looking at ( boxing day ) is fairly expensive. Have any of you flown economy at all ?

I have price alerts set up, I browse using chrome ( incognito setting ) and sometimes late at night, less traffic, and on different devices to work around the algorithms...

Re: Flying to Australia
If you call the various airlines and ask about the flight, you can sometimes get a really good price.

You might not be lucky, but if you have the time it's worth a try.

Re: Flying to Australia
yes, flew economy to Perth a few years back on Singapore Airlines, great going there surrounded by nice people. coming back couldn't have been worse, having to endure an inconsiderate cunt with his seat reclined almost the whole journey back. it was only that he was very old and looked to have not long left, that I didn't strangle the selfish cunt

Flew with Emirates Christmas before last and they were brilliant !
Will fly with them again but will definitely break up the trip with a day or two in Dubai or where ever !

The A380 is one amazing plane you'll love it.

Re: Flying to Australia
Done it loads of times. Last time I bought premium economy the whole way was about 10 years ago. That was EVA to Bangkok, then BA to Sydney and it worked out cheaper than BA the whole way (plus I got upped to business BKK-SYD).

I got into a habit of flying business for a while, but last time was economy on Thai airways, which was relatively good, but no premium economy cabin.
Have flown Singapore before, but I don't see what people rave about. Same with Emirates.

You won't qualify for free lounge access, but there are lounges you can pay to use. So if you have a long layover somewhere, you can have a shower and a rest.

I generally spend the night somewhere. Usually Bangkok now, but Singapore in the past. It's a long journey (and used to be even longer), and you'll be about ready to slit your wrist by the time you get there.

Thanks everyone. My mums and aunt both in their 60's so I was worried if economy would be suitable as they both suffer from arthritis etc. My aunt is disabled too.

Didn't think about the Ashes!

Have flown Singapore Airlines to Melbourne many times, excellent airline. Going in November for the Ashes with Ethiad, which was a lot cheaper

When you book, mention that you have elderly/disabled and you might get assistance at the airport. Might even get a golf buggy at each end.

Get onto Skyscanner and set it to alerts (emails)... had some great bargains to the States on there...

Re: Flying to Australia
Just fly economy but pay extra for the seats at the front with extra legroom. I did that with Qantas when I flew. Think it was £100 extra for the seats by the exit with nothing in front of you so you can stretch out the entire flight and don't have some cunt in front of you reclining their seat.

Done economy with Thai Airways, was fairly comfortable. Get used to the locals on the plane ignoring the not using mobile phone request. Cost around £700 and I flew out 22 Dec.

Re: Flying to Australia
I would imagine you might be late for a good deal. One should book Christmas flights when they become available, often around Jan. If you're flexible (particularly if you can fly from another airport, even Amsterdam or Paris), it could be a lot cheaper. Skyscanner is great.

Re: Flying to Australia
Fly outside of the EU and then fly from there to Australia, can work out a lot cheaper.

And skyscanner , if you want to do it the old fashioned way use Southall travel

Re: Flying to Australia
I would recommend stopping somewhere for a couple of days, in between, to break up the long journey

Re: Flying to Australia
I recommend stopping in HK, KL or Singapore, then fucking Australia off entirely and going around SE Asia. You'll have a million times better time.

Re: Flying to Australia
I have made the journey on 5 occasions

Singapore on the 380 was the most comfortable in economy, followed by Emirates, Virgin and Qantas.

If anyone flies a dreamliner down there look at that too, they are the best

Fly it in one hit unless you can afford to stop for two nights in HK or Singerpore,

Its a bit of a chore whoever you go with but worth it all the same

A cursory look at Kayak for Boxing Day departures for 3 weeks shows fares starting at £650 in economy (Air China), £1210 in Premium Econ (Vietnam) and £2100 in Business (Vietnam).
